Mediocre close to the week, unfortunately. Lack of focus at 25 showed up on the target.
The Test: 6.80, not scorable

5 rounds weak hand only: 7 yard 3×5 card, no time limit. Two hits.
Shot the rest of the box at 7 yards, on a 3×5 card. Single shots, from concealment:
- 1.76 hit
- 1.64 hit
- 1.63 hit
- 1.70 hit
- 1.56 hit
- 1.52 miss
- 1.57 hit
- 1.44 hit
- 1.48 miss
- 1.48 hit
- 1.32 hit
- 1.42 hit
- 1.41 miss
- 1.52 miss
Grip and focus issues led to the high missed shots. Don’t know what caused the low one, errors like that are rare enough that I don’t have enough experience to judge them.
I don’t know what’s happened to The Test. Today’s group wasn’t even on the paper, for the most part. It used to be one of my better drills, but something happened. I don’t know if my focus has changed in one fundamental area, or if there is something else in play. It’s always elevation errors, though.
Blazing fast raw time for the FAST. Slung a shot high on the 3×5 card, and missed all four body shots. But the splits were extremely quick, and the group was right at 2″… just in the wrong place, slightly low and left of the target. Oh well, at least the reload was quick and clean.
Strong hand only and weak hand only. They are what they are. And that’s usually a high miss.
It all came together for the single shot draws from concealment. It actually felt like dry fire: Put the sights on the card and BANG. My fastest times didn’t actually feel that quick. You can’t rush and get a solid hit with a good time. Just draw and shoot. That’s how fast you are. Biggest challenge here is remembering to get a second sight picture after the shot.
This is what my current drills work on, when I follow the schedule:
- Pure marksmanship
- Speed (with a doable accuracy goal)
- Drawing from concealment with accuracy to a small target, reload from concealment, come back from reload with emphasis on speed
- Strong hand only shooting
- Weak hand only shooting
- Drawing from concealment to a small target.
All from a single box of 50 rounds, cold, with no warm up.
